An English, PSHE and science based lesson plan featuring caring for cats. Features a story and song and worksheet based activities. Our free primary interactive resource for KS1 and 2 ‚Animals and us‘ is linked to the English and Welsh national curriculums. It’s a visually stimulating resource for interactive whiteboard or PC, that can be viewed in either English or Welsh. Subject areas include learning about RSPCA and its people, volunteering, animals‘ needs, pets in general and ownership.

There are downloadable certificates for children too. A short and appealing animation for anyone interested in understanding how pet food is made. The film explains the importance of a nutritionally balanced diet, how the industry is regulated and how carefully ingredients are sourced. The film then details the production process for wet and dry food. Read Foundation is working with Pets As Therapy, through their Read 2 Dogs project, R. Lesson plan to better understand how Blue Cross helps animals in their care. There are picture cards to download and a sequencing activity.

Fun, structured activities providing dog themed design and make projects, that provide an alternative context for learning to engage and motivate pupils as they explore key curricula objectives for developing design and technology skills including technical systems and controls to make moving pictures, puppets and toys from a range of age appropriate materials. Pupils identify that there are differences between humans and then learn further about the differences between humans and animals. Resources for all the family on how to stay safe around dogs. A short activity to complement our range of resources. Times Do Change supports PSHE and Citizenship and is a story based activity investigating caring for others, responsbility, difference and change.

Cats Protection offers free talks to schools and community groups of all ages, covering a range of different topics from responsible pet ownership to careers with cats. The talks are fun, informative and can be customised to suit your group or curriculum requirements. Download includes teachers‘ notes and link to photographs to accompany KS1 science classes. How do we look after pets? This lesson for KS1 pupils focuses on which animals make good pets and how to care for them. It builds on the lesson We all have basic needs. The download includes Question and Answer cards for a ‚visit to the vets‘ role-play, a sorting activity and a link to photographs.

IFAW’s Cats, Dogs and Us free KS1-3 teaching pack contains lessons, student magazines, a film and activities to educate students about the characteristics of cats and dogs and their needs as domesticated animals. The resource encourages students to examine and discuss the important responsibilities people have in caring for cats and dogs and the many different ways that people live with these animals around the world. IFAW’s new Special Schools resource Cats, Dogs and Us for students aged 2-19 focuses on learning about the needs of cats and dogs, and in turn our own needs and emotions. Lesson pack from National Pet Month to help forge community spirit and promote good pet care – providing packs for vets to use in school visits.

Lesson focuses on Keeping Animals Healthy. The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is the largest dog training scheme in the UK. Lesson pack – how do we look after animals? The main focus of the KS1 citizenship lesson covers choosing a pet, preparing for a pet and looking after a pet.

The aim of this KS2 citizenship lesson is to encourage group discussion about the importance of responsible pet ownership, the role of children in pet care and the issues they should consider when taking on a pet. Pupils learn about the needs of wild animals, how we can help wildlife and the importance of wildlife areas – including mini beasts. Pupils learn about the needs of animals and how they should be treated, including who is responsible for the care of animals. Pack includes powerpoint presentation, worksheets for children to complete, needs cards and lesson plan – tailored for KS1 citizenship classes.
